“BEAUTIFUL THINGS” by GUNGOR

 ~ Lyrics ~
All this pain
I wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I wonder if my life could really change at all

All this earth
Could all that is lost ever be found
Could a garden come up from this ground at all

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You

You make me new, You are making me new
You make me new, You are making me new

If you have every gone through a very trying time that cracks the very foundation of your soul, you probably have dealt with feelings of whether things could ever be good again, feelings of not knowing how to move past the pain, or feelings of being helpless to change your life circumstances. In my darkest hour, during the worst time of my life, when everything I had amounted to and worked toward was just dust in my hands, this song reminded me that God can form beautiful things out of the dust. Our dust can give rise to new beauty we never saw before, beauty that never existed before, beauty that surpasses the bitter taste of the ashes we once were.

We must realize that our lives are in the hands of the Potter. He is able to make us new when we fall apart. He can make whole what has been broken—He can repair the biggest tear, fill the largest hole, and mend the greatest injury in our souls. When the deepest and most powerful feelings of despair arise, they must be met with the most confident and assuring feelings of hope. During my time of pain and sorrow, when I had hit rock bottom, this song provided a way for me to maintain, however slight a sense it was, of the fact that God could take everything bad in my life and use it to make something good. It just doesn’t feel that way at the time you are suffering. But, the garden that can spring up from your barren ground does not grow overnight. It begins by receiving new life and then letting it grow—a small light can overcome much darkness.

Isaiah 61:3 NLT
To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory.
