This is a testimony I shared with you before. This man was stung by 5 box jellyfish and eventually was declared dead and put in the morgue. He testifies that he was immediately out of his body after death. He had a short experience in hell; but, upon remembering his prayer to ask for forgiveness, he was brought before Jesus and shown the new earth and heaven.
One thing I found interesting about his testimony is that, in asking God for forgiveness, he didn’t acknowledge Jesus in any way, shape, or form. He simply prayed the Lord’s prayer, asked God to forgive him, and God prompted him to forgive people who had sinned against him. That was enough for him to be allowed into paradise.
This happened in the ’80s. He has been a minister for many years. I believe he is currently in the UK, although he is originally from New Zealand. God healed his body from the paralysis of the jellyfish attack. From what I’ve read of his ministry, he is a proponent of God’s healing power.
I shared this testimony with another friend that I have been discussing theology with, and my friend thought the testimony seemed legit. Testimony, of course, does not supercede scripture. But this man’s testimony seems to line up with it.

The link was dead, but I watched the interview on YouTube. Ian’s description of his out of body experience after being stung by jellyfish was very interesting. However, it left me highly suspicious on many accounts. He explains that he was conscious immediately after his heart monitor flat-lined. But what is intriguing about such a claim is that if there is immediate consciousness after death, then why are there relatively few stories of out of body experiences compared to how many people go into cardiac arrest and then are resuscitated each year. If the soul is truly immortal and you are aware of what is going on whether in your body or out of your body, then everyone whose heart stopped beating would have an out of body experience.
Also, I find Ian’s Scriptural correlation of his “experience” to be completely unconvincing and unsupported in the Bible. The places that he said he went and the things he said and how it happened, I find no reason to conclude that they reflect reality and the truth revealed in Scripture. No to be skeptical, but it would not surprise me if someday Ian’s story is shown to be just a fabrication of his imagination (whether intentional or unintentional) just like Alex Malarkey and the “Heaven is For Real” publicity scam.

Point taken.
Just for clarification, Alex Malarkey is separate from “Heaven is For Real.” He had his own experience written in a book called, “The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven.”
Colton Burpo is the boy from “Heaven is For Real,” and after Alex Malarkey admitted he had fabricated the story, Colton made a point of standing by his.
Interesting side note about “Heaven is For Real,” (because we were talking about it) Colton was 3 – I believe – when he had his experience. After he came back, he mentioned to his Mom that he had 2 sisters because he met a girl in Heaven who told her that she was his sister and had died in their Mom’s tummy. He had never been told about that miscarriage. He told his Mom and Dad that she appeared to be about the age she would have been had she lived. According to Colton, people in Heaven are a young age (20s to 30s), but if they arrive young, they mature until they reach that age.
I know that all of this sounds like malarkey…..haha. And I would not stake my life on it. But, even the Bible talks about people having visions of Heaven…..Paul talks about a man (likely himself) being caught up to the third heaven (whether in the body or out of it) – in fact, he goes on to say “caught up into Paradise.” (2 Cor. 12:2-4) ย And John, of course, saw Heaven. Isaiah saw Heaven. Stephen looked up into Heaven.
And God still works in people’s lives. Who can say for sure that an experience is not legitimate?…..unless, of course, the person reveals the lie themselves. ๐
But, yes, this does not carry valid weight in a scriptural discussion.
It’s a shame no one ever wrote down Lazarus’ testimony. Where is that manuscript hidden? Cyprus? ๐
